Nutrition tips for healthy life

I have lived more years then I care to think about but thankfully they have all been healthy years. Now this didn’t happen because I have ‘good genes’ (I don’t) or because I got lucky and beat the odds (no such luck), no this happened because I wanted to be healthy so I worked toward that end.

Now you might ask; who doesn’t want to be healthy? Well my friend all you need to do is sit at the mall for 30 minutes on any given Saturday and observe the people walking by and you’ll get your answer. Evidently very few! Obesity is rampant with all it’s related diseases, hospital emergency visits are skyrocketing and disease ridden people flock to the pharmacy in record numbers to stock up on drugs that do nothing to improve their health.

We as a willing society have been duped into health complacency. What I mean by that is individually and collectively we have a herd mentality believing the TV adds and nightly news and the hoards of so called experts telling us what is and isn’t good for our health. We have relinquished our good common sense and the God given healing attributes of the human body. Instead we dutifully get our shots, vaccinations, prescription drugs and bad advice simply because we are told to. Few of us take the time and effort to educate ourselves concerning health issues.

Our health is the singly most important issue facing every human being and yet we act as if it is vogue to be fat and out of shape. We wear our health ineptness with a badge of honor. Paradoxically everyone will tell you if asked ’I want to be healthy’. So with that assumption in place let me explain a common sense approach to maintaining a healthy life for all your life.

First and foremost you must start thinking for yourself. Question the authorities that put demands on you, not irreverently but with inquisitiveness. Get the answers you need to make your own health decisions.

Decisions must always be made on the basis of your health not what anyone else is doing.

Unless your very serious about being healthy for the rest of your life and willing to do what it takes to succeed you most assuredly won’t. Being completely healthy requires living a lifestyle that is conducive to good health. This isn’t some infomercial to living healthy in 4 easy steps for only $29.99+ shipping and handling. This will have to be a lifetime commitment devoted to staying healthy.

When I say healthy I mean free of disease and debilitating conditions not the common cold (although you won’t get many) or the occasional bug that is going around. Although I must say if your immune system is where it should be even the common flu will have a really hard time infecting you. When you do get sick it will be for a very short time with NO after affects.

It has been nearly 40 years since I visited a doctor and that was for a sore throat. (bad idea)

I have had the flu a few times and a occasional headache but beyond that nothing. My wife is the same way with no health issues. Decidedly I started living my healthy lifestyle as a young adult and never swayed from the path. I firmly believe anyone at any age can benefit from a positive lifestyle change.

The objective is clear and concise; Live Long and Live Healthy.

Some of the things I will list here your going to hate and will immediately stop reading, well at least I got you thinking for yourself. For the rest of you please bear in mind I’m no doctor or medical expert just a person who has lived a relative long life and who has walked the walk and talked the talk. Some things are seemingly simplistic, they aren’t.

1.Personal fortitude with a savage attitude that I am worth the effort to succeed.

2.Never ever succumb to age, treat your body the same at 50 as you would at 30 and it will respond if properly conditioned. (side note): I climb trees, do running sprints, jump off high places all the stuff I did as kid, I never stopped so the body responds.

3.Demand the best for your body don’t settle for anything less. Don’t put anything in or on your body that you wouldn’t want your children to do.

4. The food police will tell you what or what not to eat but I will tell you this, if you eat any food in moderation with abundant variety you will be the better for it. Specifically I eat my share of meat, potatoes, vegetables, fruits and plenty of dessert. Everything is in moderation with all the meat not fried but cooked another way and all vegetables and fruits free of pesticides and chemicals. Eat moderate portions at each meal disciplining yourself not to overeat. Remember we eat to sustain our bodies ability to function properly and for most of us we don’t need much food. I think eating has been made into some grand event where we must eat as much as we can at every sitting. Enjoy your meal but remember you eat because it is a necessity .

5. Drink clean water with absolutely no chemical additives and drink a lot of water.

6.Avoid eating a lot of sugar and use salt in moderation.

7.Packaged food contains preservatives and dyes which are un-natural to the human body

8.Wash (scrub) fruits and vegetables before eating unless they are organic they will be loaded with chemicals.

9. Frying food is a no no because of cancer causing carcinogens.

10. The overall principal I live with concerning what I put in my body is quite simple,

If it has a man made substance in it such as preservatives o r dyes or any of those long scientific names that are impossible to pronounce then I’m pretty sure I don’t want to eat it.

11.Exercise is good but don’t over do it moderation applies here. I have found cross country walking is a lot of fun and a great exercise for the whole body. Also walking my two golden retriever pups keeps me bouncing up and down. The key here is to stay active EVERYDAY remember this is a life style.

If your able to do outdoor physical work like lawn mowing that is a real plus, enjoy the great outdoors and reap the healthful benefits at the same time.

12. Love life and laugh much and often. Surround yourself with loving family and friends.

13. Stress is a killer so it is vitally important to avoid stressful situations. I firmly believe stress is the number one health concern in our society. Stress places a tremendous burden on our immune system to protect us from disease and with a weakened immune system the door is left wide open for all sorts of health problems.

14. Lastly or perhaps firstly, stand firm in your personal faith.

Now what I have said is all relevant to staying healthy all your life however it would be a hollow existence if I weren’t married to my soul mate and totally committed to our marriage. When you can share your life with the person you love life’s burdens melt away and happiness is easy to find.

I urge you to sign up for a health plan that involves no government help or insurance company premium indeed this health plan involves only you and your commitment to a healthy life style. Why not sign up today!

Given your height and weight, you're not huge, but...I think dietician/ nutritionist is the one occupation in the medical field where ANY excess weight would be frowned upon by at least some of your patients. It would give them an excuse to not listen to your input, you know (of which it sounds like you're already aware)?

If you aren't able to take off a few pounds - I don't know what your build is like, so I don't know whether you'd need to lose 5, 10 or 20 pounds to achieve a "healthy" look - that doesn't mean you can't consider another profession in the medical field. Registered nurses, pharmacists, occupational or physical therapists, physician's assistants, etc. are ALL in demand nowadays, and nobody would think twice if you carried a little extra weight in any of those positions.

Good luck to you! : )

EDIT: No, it doesn't affect what anyone can study, but it may influence how effectively she can carry out her duties.

First thing you should do is get rid of any junk food in your place. Then do some grocery shopping, and buy healthy things, such as veggies, and fruits. Try to drink more water, and decrease juice drinking, and cut out soda if you are drinking it. If you buy stuff such as Starbucks Frappy's, cut that out too. If you gonna eat out for lunch, I would suggest you eat grilled chicken, salad, or tuna.

Try to walk around your neighborhood about 4 days a week for 30 minutes. Once you get accustomed to it, start to do some jogging.

Also what you should do is take dieter's tea. It's good to clean you out. You can find it at the west indian market. I would recommend you drink it the night before, and stay home during the day. The best time to take it is on weekends (if you are off them days).

Like you, I walk to the station and it's a pretty decent exercise depending on the speed you walk, because I usually burn some serious calories when I walk to the train station, then climb those stairs. I am a fast walker.

To help you with your meals, you can go to kraftfoods.com, and customize your own meals. They give you the recipes and everything. And it's free to sign up. You should also try doing some calestetics for about 30 minutes before you go to bed at night.

    I hope it helps.

  3. Follow this and see results.

    1. Set your weight loss goal. Whether you want to lose 5 pounds or 100 pounds ,setting a goal will help you along the way.. This journey is not easy but when you step on that scale and see yourself 5 pounds lighter you will want to keep it going

    2. Now its time for the Grocery store. In the Frozen food section you have in the weight conscious section you will see Lean cuisine, weight watchers or Healthy choice meals. I usually stuck with Lean cuisine or weight watchers. But any of them are fine. Now you want to pick up your weeks worth of foods. SO pick out 7 Breakfast 7 Lunches and 7 Dinners. You will also need to pick up 7 desserts. It could be frozen or non frozen. Weight watchers has great desserts or maybe try some of the special K desserts as well.

    3. After you find all of your main meals for the week. Its time to move on to the produce section. You will want get ingredients for a garden and spinach salad. You could use as much veggies as you want on it. For example you could buy, broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers etc. There is no limit to the veggies. You will also need salad dressing and light dressing is fine and you should only use no more than 2 teaspoons of the dressing. You will have a salad whether its the spinach or garden everyday with lunch.

    4. Now you will need to pick out your fruits, oranges, apples, pears, watermelon, grapes, peaches, grapefruit etc. You will have 1 fruit everyday for snack after lunch

    5. Ok so now that you have all your ingredients now your ready for the game plan. It doesn't matter how you eat it or when just make sure you eat everything for that day. You will have breakfast and 1 fruit with it. Then you will have lunch and a salad, then its 1 fruit for snack then you will a dinner with as much veggies as you would like, and 1 dessert for snack.

    6. Always remember to drink lots of water throughout your days. Following these steps you should see between 1/2 pound to 2 pounds of weight loss a week.

    Good luck!

  4. Yazz says:

    Eating:

Try to eat 5 small meals a day - one protein (Chicken Breast the size of your palm, steak the same size, eggs in the morning); one simple carb (baked potato, sweet potato, brown rice - try to stay away from bleached foods or "white" carbs like white rice and white bread) and a serving of vegetable. To save time, I cook my meals (aside from breakfast) on Sunday, then portion them and freeze/refridgerate them. This is probably the biggest tip you'll get in terms of being able to eat 5 meals a day - it gets REAL tough when you have to cook each and every time.

    Working Out:

There are millions of ways to do this. If you're someone who has never been to a gym and you have a little bit of extra cash, hire a trainer to show you how to use the equipment and formulate a plan for you. I can't stress this point enough - FORM IS KING, meaning let someone show you how to do the exercises PROPERLY. Don't worry about how heavy you're lifting just yet. You'll see WAY more gains if you focus on form with lighter weights than you will if you try to press the house with bad form. Plus, you'll remain injury free and the results you'll see with last much longer. Do an online search for info - there's way too much to put here. But to give you an idea - I was about the same height and weight as you when I started, and I went 4 times a week, alternating body parts (I'd work chest and triceps on one day, back and biceps on another, shoulders and calves on another, and legs on the fourth day - abs and core exercises I'd work by themselves first thing in the morning). I'd choose 3 exercies to do (eg - for chest - bench press, incline flyes, and cable crossovers) and pick a weight I could do 12 reps with while feeling fatigue on the 9th or 10th rep of the first set. I would allow myself to lower the weight I was using if I couldn't finish 12 reps , then use the lower weight to complete the set. I would rest for 2 minutes between sets, and I would use a 4-1-4 count for each rep (eg - bench press - 'd take a count of 4 to lower the barbell, hold for one count, then raise again for a 4 count). Then, after a couple of weeks (4 weeks maximum) I'd change it up - change the exercises, change which days I'd work which body parts, change the rest time in between sets, change the count I'd use for each rep. As the rest time lowers (it should be either 30, 60, 90, or 120 seconds), the amount of sets I'd use would increase (up to 5 sets). Changing it up allows you to work the muscles in different ways (slow twitch and fast twitch muscles, hitting different stabilizing muscles), and thus gives you a rounding workout plan and a more functional body.

    Supplements:

I have really only used Creatine, which worked really great, but make sure you drink lots of water. Your muscles are 80% water, and creatine helps your muscles hold the water. It is something your body makes naturally, but not inearly n the quantities that is suggested for body building. What happens with creatine is that your muscles hold more water, which helps them to swell up. Two things happen from here - the muscles are able to recover faster, which means you can lift heavier weights for more reps, which helps to get you stronger. And it aids in muscle memory - think of a balloon that has already been blown up, then deflated. It is already stretched out, so it's easier to blow up again to the same size. That's muscle memory in a nutshell, so if you're on creatine and your muscles swell, it's easier to get back to that size once you cycle off of it. That being said, I have become an advocate of doing things copmletely naturally as your diet will have a much bigger affect on your physique than anything else you do.

    Results:

Depending on where you're starting and exactly what your goals are. Most people say 3 months, but again, that depends on your starting point and your end goal. What is encouraging is that you'll see small changes in a couple of weeks that will excite you and keep you going to the gym.

    Motivation:

Think of each small step as you go and no further. For example, when you're heading to the gym, don't get overwhelmed with how tired you are, or how much you don't want to go. Don't think about your workout yet - just focus on actually getting to the gym. Once you're there, it will be a lot tougher to turn around and give up.

But apply the same principle to your entire workout. So many people get discouraged when they think "I've got 11 sets of back left!" Don't think that far ahead. Don't think any further than your next rep. Let those little moments complete your workout - before you know it, that rep will become 2 reps, which will become a set, which will become a workout.

I also found something that really helped me - this company sells these fitness t-shirts with motivational sayings printed backwards on them so you can read it in the mirror while you work out. tempo22. Check it out. I'm out of space.

dude! chill out....u will grow....during puberty things happen more quicly than others. i mean i have 6 feet at 16 and my brother was only 5.5 at 16. he eventually grew. so dont sweat it and if ur worried about ur hiehgt go to the doc!

  6. oh my sweet friend beans baby ..... i'm sorry this villain obsession is crushing you mate ........ i just wanna jump up and ((((Hugggle)))) you luv ....... i do have a rather precious idea for you to try ........... and i don't care if you giggle and twitter cos ima tell you anyway....... haha, just teasing........... i know you wouldn't laugh at moi........ try some herbal tea buddy....... the organic loose leaf variety of course.... the prepackaged tea bag and commercial varieties could never possibly be of any therapeutic benefit ...... and please ensure you still drink loads of water ... nothing substitutes for water and also to drink it through a straw ........ just put 1 - 2 teaspoons full into a pot ....... top with boiling water and brew for 10 mins ........... as it is organic you can reuse the spent leaves once or twice more as the essential oils in the tea are still so rich....... sip it through a straw to protect your precious little teeth from any further damage.

Liquorice tea ........****aaaah, stamps feet & squeals....... i meant to say liquorice root tea****......... do you like the taste?? It will stabillise your blood sugar levels and help you maintain energy levels ...... it is an adrenal, antispasmodic, nutritive and rejuvenative ...... it will help to induce a feeling of peace, calm and harmony and will definitely help to soothe a ravaged digestive tract ... it will also regulate your system and have a slight diuretic affect ....... so keep up your water intake ....... i don't think it will stop you from wanting to purge but you never know .... if it calms you down it just might do that ....... but it will surely help relieve some of the stressfull symptoms and side affects.

Liquorice tea is an excellent treatment for stomach cramps, indigestion caused by too much stomach acid, and ulcers of both the stomach and the mouth, because it also contains strong anti inflammatory properties ....... so it would therefore help to heal and soothe your inflamed gastrointestinal tract ..... all that acid coming back up would do more than a little damage hey ........... another key ingredient in liquorice root has an effect similar to synthetic cortisone, which explains its effectiveness in treating exhaustion of the adrenal glands. (In western medicine, cortisone is often prescribed for adrenal cortex malfunction)... what thismeans is that liquorice is excellent in counteracting exhaustion due to physical exertion or prolonged illness..... this ingredient also makes liquorice tea useful as a wash for psoriasis and eczema, conditions that are often treated with cortisone creams........ its been used for centuries as a treatment for asthma and the flu but they've recently shown that this herb also helps adrenal glands to recover after long periods of stress ....... and stress is what you're placing on your system mate.

hmmm, after all that i have a sneaking suspicion you've told me before you don't like liquorice ........ oh i hope you do like it ........;0)

    ****
CAUTION: people with diabetes, rapid heartbeat, hypertension or severe edema as well as those taking digoxin druge should avoid licorice.. it should also be avoided during pregnancy ... excessive use can cause sodium retention and potassium depletion so stick to 2 cups daily.
    ****

as far as doing irreparable damage to your GI tract ... i for one believe that the human body has an absolutely AmAZiNg capacity to heal and regenerate ..... unfortunately, having food intolerances, sensitivities and allergies it seems to come with the territory that people end up having some kind of food obsession ........ but i know how strong you are and i also know that if i can heal my ravaged body from 20 years of heavy alcohol abuse and also from the ravages caused by unaddressed food intolerances that you can too ....... imean to say, the "Doctors" told me i couldn't have children from the damage i'd caused from copious amounts of drinking ...... and i went on to get pregnant naturally 3 times ....... and as soon as i addressed all my food intolerances my system was "spontaneously" regular ......... and it hadn't been my entire life .......or for at least as long as i can remember .......... 30 odd years of constipation and bad digestion and acid reflux blahblahblabh....... you have the youth benefit on me too ...... you're only 30 mate ..... i was 38 when i ditched the booze ........ and i was 43 when i addressed all my food intolerances ....... chin up mate ....... you can eat regular meals ..... eat loads of the living leafy green stuff and hang in there cos i know you can do this....... you're brain isn't in charge here ..... the foods you crave or want to eliminate aren't in charge here........ the bullies aren't in charge here....... YoU ArE ..... you are more than just your mind ....... you are running this show and i believe in the power of you ....... so do you ..... so say the words out loud and stop yourself from eating the things you know that you'll want to yak back up ........ stop yourself from wanting to purge when you get the urge ....... think about your precious little heart and shiny glossy hair and silky skin that needs all those vitamins to keep shining ...... do it because you CaN ....... do it because you are entitled to feel fabulous in your own skin........ ;0)

sorry, i'm babbling again........ gosh, what a motor mouth i am .... sorry bout that ..... well, i'm not really ..... it just sounds good to say i am ...... haha, but you know that ....... hey, don't hassle me, i just luv ya and you deserve the BeSt...........;0)

    peace baby

  7. Criss says:

I don't think there is too much problem eating only fruits, except you need protein and getting it from fruit is not the best way.

The reasoning behind the only fruit diet is complete nonsense though.

From mans very early stages when he learned he could cook food, he was able to make many different meals and was able to thrive. Everyone living at 80 yrs old now adays, is because we have medicine and good food and good ways to eat food. The average person (most people) need to eat meat, need to eat vegetables, fruits, nuts, fish. To deny yourself that food is to go against your body, evolution, dna whatever you want to call it. Our bodies are designed to eat all these things. You might make it eating only a few things, but the mass population from generations past, needs to eat the foods that we normally eat today. Also eating the good foods and medicine of today the age limit is getting higher and higher. To go backwards on a mass level would mean we would all start living shorter lives.

Try the fruit diet, I eat only very bland foods because of illness. Some crackers, breadsticks (plain) and some juice thats most of what I eat every day. Most likely I will be eating this every day for a long time...I do eat donuts and meat when I can.

The key to quitting smoking is to go from smoking 1 pack a day, to maybe 1 pack a week to maybe 1 cig a week to maybe 1 cig a month, until you can control it so much that you say, nah I'll skip this month and smoke 1 next month. At that point it's just a healthy habbit.

So eat the things you like most once in a while, you don't really need to only eat fruits to be healthy and be this panzy fruitarian lifestyle, it was made up by hippies and your not a hippy.

  8. I'm quite a fan of Dr. Hovfe as her articles are very clear, succinct, and I think correct when it comes to feeding cats. I also feel that the canned must be of high quality, not Fancy Feast, Science Diet etc. which use by-product meat.

The teeth issue is also one I feel to be as much genetics as anything else (certainly in my case as a human) and my vets all agree on that. I have a 13 yr old kibble addict and every year the vet looks at her teeth and says, "Well, they don't need cleaning this year - maybe next year." Other cats I have need cleanings every year or every other year. They do eat a raw meat diet and canned food.

If we all ate chips or cereal all day without any milk and only a small amount of water and did not brush our teeth we would have plaque buildup too.
